Bikepacking in Saxony Day 1

After agonizing over 1 million different bikepacking storage options, I chose the absolutely worst thing. First proper test of the bikepacking gear, setup and storage possibilities along a beautiful route from Dresden along the Elbe valley

A random bikepacking route following the Elbe heading north from Dresden.

Starting the train station in Coswig bei Dresden, this cycling route passes through the absolutely stunning town of Meissen (good coffee) follows along the Elbe Radweg to Riesa (a much needed stop - as my chain had decided to play funny buggers and I needed to get some repairs done) and finally heads over some gravel roads to Torgau where a first campsite stop in my new tent (and unfortunately, some loud rockers) awaited me.

Absolute shout-out to the team at Fahrrad-Kette in Riesa for saving my bacon here.

Secondly - the bags. Holy f**k I messed up on these. I wanted to make sure I could fit everything in so I bought some (in hindsight) quite huge Ortleib 22 litres fork bags.... or at least I thought that's what they would be. In the end I think I could have fit a small child in them and they REALLY did not look good on the bike (example below).

I spent half my cycling time trying to find ways to keep the bags upright and not doubling over, it was yeah - an utter mess.

So - mistake was made and now I had to live with it. Bravely continuing on (seriously the embarassment level was HUGE) I eventually made it to the campsite, a lovely little place with clean, hot showers (always the best thing) and got myself some food.

So that's it for now. Night one of bike camping is done....
